Serbian Super League Complete!

Today the Serbian Super League has completed. Red Star officially raised the trophy today in front of its 20,000 fans with a 1:1 draw against Hajduk Kula and Partizan finished second with an impressive 7:1 win against Mladost Apatin. By the way, Partizan fans (Grobari) have returned from a 2 year boycott for their final match against Mladost. Bezanija upset Vojvodina 3:2 as hosts. The five teams that will represent Serbian club football in Europe will be Red Star, (Champions League Qual.) Partizan, Vojvodina, Bezanija (UEFA Cup Qual) and Hajduk Kula (Intertoto Cup) The new system with play-off and play-out did not make much impact towards the improvement of the competition and so it's already being discussed that changes will be made to how the Serbian Super League will function next season. Red Star have a lot to be proud of as they clinched that double crown (10th) for the second time in a row. Partizan had a shameful season with amazing 11 defeats. I must say that I was pretty impressed by Vojvodina's display through out the season as they probably played the most beautiful football. Bezanija had an excellent season and have everything to be proud of as in their first season with the Elite they managed to earn a spot in the UEFA Cup qualification. In my opinion, not because I am Serbian but because I am a soccer fan there is still a great amount of talent in Serbia but bad politics and the country's bad economy has lead to poor audience attendance. Something must be done to bring back the people to watch the games again. Hopefully some changes occur soon.

The New Kings of Europe, Milan!

In a game that reminded more of a preliminary group meeting, A.C. Milan easily defeated Liverpool in the 2007 Champions League Final. The final score was 2:1 and even though that the scoreline does not represent Milan's overpowering of Liverpool but Milan had the game initiative throughout the whole game. Milan took the lead in the first half when Pirlo's free-kick was deflected into the goal by Pipo Inzaghi. The second half was a little boring to watch as Milan was controlling the middle of the field. In the 82nd minute Inzaghi made it 2:0. Liverpool responded with one goal in the 87th minute when Dirk Kuyt beat Dida with a beautiful header. But, it was a little too late and Milan got their revenge from the 2005 Champions league final. I must say that I was a little disappointed in both sides as neither Milan, nor Liverpool came out ready to play for the fans. Maybe all the players got drunk the night before the match (haha). Congratulations to A.C. Milan but hopefully we watch a more attractive final next year.

Nikola Zigic, Who Do You Think You Are?

Nikola Zigic, 202 centimeters tall Racing Santander striker has become very famous in Spain and especially in Santander. Zigic stated that he cannot walk the street or go anywhere with out being asked for an autograph which is an awesome accomplishment. However, Zigic stated another thing which disturbed me. He said that he is not ready for Barcelona or Real Madrid but he also wouldn't want to end up in Fenerbahce like "Kezman". I think that he has no right to say such a thing because Mateja Kezman AKA The Batman had scored more than 100 goals in 3 seasons while playing for PSV. Besides they were national team mates and played well alongside one another. I think that Zigic is becoming another conceited professional athlete who does not possess 1 gram of character.

Ivica Kralj In LA Galaxy?

Many rumours are flowing around that the former Yugoslavian goalkeeper Ivica Kralj could resume his career in USA. LA Galaxy have announced that they are very interested in obtaining Kralj's services. Ivica Kralj stated, "I would have no problems playing on a team with a great player like David Beckham." Ivica Kralj vas capped more than 50 times for the Yugoslavian national team and is currently playing for Partizan Belgrade. After Sasa Curcic, Ivica Kralj would only be the second Yugoslavian (Serbian) player in the MLS (Excluding Preki). It's an interesting fact that Curcic is an ex- Partizan Belgrade player as well.

Real Madrid On FIre!

Real Madrid have been on fire lately. Even though Capello had announced that he will be changing clubs over the summer his club, Real Madrid is currently on top of Spanish Primera Division. Real Madrid completed a comeback against Espanyol this weekend from 1:3 to 4:3. Maybe Real Madrid have rediscovered their magic as they are currently showing nothing but power. Barcelona on the other hand had a chance to stay on top of Primera but they only managed to draw against Real Betis 1:1. Real and Barca are currently level on points but Real has an advantage due to better mutual results against Barcelona. There are only 4 more games left in the season and Real and Barcelona only having left one trophy to win better stay in top form or Sevilla could sneak in and conquer Spain.

Zigic in Tottenham???

Racing Santander have lowered Zigic's price to a realistic 10 million Euros as opposed to 25 million. As things stand now, the most serious potential buyer is Tottenham from London. Juventus is still in the game and Manchester City are very much interested in the Serbian striker. Zigic currently has scored 9 goals and assisted to 10 goals this season for Racing Santander.

Getafe Shocks Barcelona:

After having lost 5:2 in the first leg of Copa Del Rey Semi-Final, Getafe came back in the second leg to beat Barcelona 4:0. Getafe played an excellent game and showed a lot of team spirit on the field today, while Barcelona played with a lot of confusion in the defense and lack of hunger to win. On paper, Getafe had achieved a sensation but on the field Getafe made Barca look like they are a second division team. Getafe will meet with Sevilla in the final who beat Deportivo La Coruna 5:0 on aggregate.

LIverpool and A.C. Milan will play in the Champions League Final.

After both Liverpool and Milan lost first leg matches to Chelsea and Manchester Unitet both have risen to the occasion at their home stadiums and claimed the Champions League Final spots. Liverpool beat Chelsea on penalties 4:1 and Milan beat Man U 3:0 at home which made the final aggregate score 5:3 for Milan. The final shall be an interesting match as it's a rematch from the 2005 Champions League final where Liverpool climbed back from 3:0 to 3:3 and eventually won on penalties. A little less that 2 weeks remain till the greatest Club final in the world which will take place in Athens, Greece.
