Soccer Picks For This Week!
This Week's Recap:
Another weekend with great soccer behind us. No real surprises as all top teams have won in their respective leagues including Barcelona, Real Madrid, Schalke, Bayern Munich, Manchester. Struggling Chelsea only pulled off a scoreless draw against Fulham at Stanford Bridge. Is Avram Grant to stay at Chelsea? Only time will tell. Going back to Spanish Primera, Thierry Henry shined for Barca as he scored a Hat-Trick against the struggling Levante side.
This week we had 2 exciting matches. First Internazionale outclasses AS Roma on their own field as Zlatan Ibrahimovic continues to prove that he is one of the top strikers in the world at the moment. Partizan-Red Star Derby (131) finished in a 2:2 draw. The Belgrade derby had the visitors, Red star leading twice but Partizan showed that they are a very serious Serbian league title contenders as they managed to equalize in the late moments of the match. You can see the highlights of this game At the bottom of the "SERBIAN SUPER LEAGUE" post.

Eduardo Da Silva-Dinamo Z. to Arsenal (24 million Euros)
Almiron-Empoli to Juventus (9 million Euros)
Iaquinta-Udinese to Juventus (11.3 million Euros)

Nikola Gulan-Partizan to Fiorentina (2 million Euros)
"Lola" Smiljanic-Partizan to Espanyol (4 million Euros)
(possible) N. Zigic R. Santander to Fenerbahce (22 million Euros)
A lot of stuff happened in the mean time as Brazil won the Copa America and USA won the Gold Cup. Also Partizan got disqualified from UEFA Cup, only to be given another chance. Partizan won a 2 leg match against Zrinjski from Mostar by 11:1. Jovetic scored 4 goals in two matches and new signing Diara scored 3. Bezanija were upset by Bessa from Albania as they eliminated them from the UEFA Cup and Vojvodina beat Hibernians from Malta. Red Star Belgrade won their first leg of the second round Champions League qualifying as they beat Levadia 1:0 at home. Shall they pass Levadia, Red Star will face Rangers for the spot in the Champions League

Tosic in Lyon???
Dusko Tosic, Serbian defensive-midfielder/defender is on a verge of signing a contract with 6 times in a row French champions, Lyon. Lyon is said to be seriously interested in the young Serb but so are the giants from Marseille and Monaco. Lyon are concerned with selling Abidal, but that should happen as Abidal will probably move in the English Premiership. Where ever Tosic goes his girlfriend Jelena Karleusa will surely enjoy herself.
Bojan Krkic To Play For Serbia???
For those of you who don't know the 411 on this player: Bojan Krkic is half Serbian Half Spanish (Catalonian) whose father is Serbian and mother from Catalonia. Krkic is said to have a mixture of Ronaldinho's and Messi's skills and agility. The speed of Messi and technique of Ronaldinho. He pretty much grew up in F.C. Barcelona organization and has played for all the younger Spanish national sides. However, the FIFA rule is that a player has until the age of 21 to decide for what national team he will play. Bojan's mother told her son to play either for Catalonia (not Spain) or for Serbia! So Serbia can still hope for Krkic to play for their A side. I hope he plays for Serbia as Serbia already has some exceptional young players and only imagine if Krkic would fill in the equation. This would mean a couple of European Championships and World Cups for Serbia for sure..... Lets remind that already one wunderkind Kuzmanovic changed from Swiss U-21 to Serbia A squad.

Serbia Finally Where They Belong...
Serbian soccer players are once again being scouted and are signing contract with elite soccer clubs. Slobodan Rajkovic will be seen in PSV along with Danko Lazovic, Aleksandar Kolarov has signed a contract with Lazio and Bosko Jankovic will most likely transfer from Mallorca to Valencia for a nice chunk of change (10+ million euros). Dejan Milovanovic is being watched by Bayern Munich scouts.

Brazilian in FK Partizan!
After deciding not to extend Ivica Kralj's, Cirkovic's, Nadj's and Bajic's contracts FK Partizan Director Ivan Tomic is going to sign the Brazilian Juliano Roberto Antonello "Juca" from the Brazilian side Botafogo. Juca is a defensive midfielder reminding of Pirlo but with a much stronger shot with his powerful right foot. Juca should sign the final contract this Saturday.
UPDATE: Juca has signed a 2+1 year deal today with FK Partizan and will wear #8.

Sasa Ilic In Salzburg!
Sasa Ilic has passed all the medical tests and has signed the final contract with Red Bull Salzburg. Sazlburg's coach Lothar Matheus said that Ilic was #1 on their wish lists, and now that they have signed him Salzburg midfield seems much more indepth and stronger. Lets hope that Ilic shines in Austria as he did in Turkey and maybe we see him in the Serbian National squad some time soon.
As Promised.....

This Week's Interesting Stories:
A lot of good soccer this week and a lot of transfers. In EURO 2008 Qualifying, Armenia made a sensational shock by defeating Poland 1:0, Finland defeated Belgium 2:0 and Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan played a 1:1 draw. Serbia and Portugal sitting this one out and is almost clear that Portugal and Serbia will be the contenders for the first spot in that group as Poland seems to be losing the "magic touch". Another great game took place in Zagreb, Croatia where Croatia and Russia ended in a 0:0 draw, but an excellent played game with a lot of attacking football. As far as club football goes, it's very interesting that Buffon extended his contract with Juventus even though he said that he wanted to leave, the contract is valid until 2012 when Buffon will probably end his career. Roberto Carlos will join LA Galaxy as his contract had expired with Real Madrid and will join Galaxy on a free transfer, nothing new on Ivica Kralj who is also supposed to sign for the LA side. Frank Ribery the Frenchman has signed a contract with Bayern Munich and Finally, Danko Lazovic had signed with PSV Eindhoven. He is the second Serbian in 3 years to wear number nine for the club after Mateja Kezman a.k.a "Batman". Lazovic reminds me more of the "Punisher" which is what he literately does for a living 'punishing the opposing team for every mistake made and sometimes has a problem with his attitude" In the next post I will give every Serbian player who is in the starting 'A' squad a Super Hero nickname. Thank you for reading this post.

Finland vs Serbia 0:2 (0:1)
Excellent game in Helsinki for the Serbs. The early goal scored by Bosko Jankovic allowed Serbia to control the game how they wanted to. Serbia dominated 70% and Finland only looked dangerous only in a few occasions but Serbian star defenders Nemanja Vidic and Mladen Krstajic made it almost impossible for The Finland side to convert. Serbia scored their second goal in the last quarter of the second half where Milan Jovanovic scored on his debut from Danko Lazovic's assist. Serbia today didn't just get the two goals and three points, Serbia can also be proud of Antonio Rukavina and Zdravko Kuzmanovic as they were the two youngest players on the field and yet probably the bravest. They both had a few cracks on the goal and I must say that this new attribute is mostly important for Serbia. Serbia finally has not one, but two players that have courage to take long shots. Finally, I must congratulate the whole Serbian squad for their immaculate performance against Finland and the superiority that they showed.

Serbian Super League Complete!
Today the Serbian Super League has completed. Red Star officially raised the trophy today in front of its 20,000 fans with a 1:1 draw against Hajduk Kula and Partizan finished second with an impressive 7:1 win against Mladost Apatin. By the way, Partizan fans (Grobari) have returned from a 2 year boycott for their final match against Mladost. Bezanija upset Vojvodina 3:2 as hosts. The five teams that will represent Serbian club football in Europe will be Red Star, (Champions League Qual.) Partizan, Vojvodina, Bezanija (UEFA Cup Qual) and Hajduk Kula (Intertoto Cup) The new system with play-off and play-out did not make much impact towards the improvement of the competition and so it's already being discussed that changes will be made to how the Serbian Super League will function next season. Red Star have a lot to be proud of as they clinched that double crown (10th) for the second time in a row. Partizan had a shameful season with amazing 11 defeats. I must say that I was pretty impressed by Vojvodina's display through out the season as they probably played the most beautiful football. Bezanija had an excellent season and have everything to be proud of as in their first season with the Elite they managed to earn a spot in the UEFA Cup qualification. In my opinion, not because I am Serbian but because I am a soccer fan there is still a great amount of talent in Serbia but bad politics and the country's bad economy has lead to poor audience attendance. Something must be done to bring back the people to watch the games again. Hopefully some changes occur soon.

The New Kings of Europe, Milan!
In a game that reminded more of a preliminary group meeting, A.C. Milan easily defeated Liverpool in the 2007 Champions League Final. The final score was 2:1 and even though that the scoreline does not represent Milan's overpowering of Liverpool but Milan had the game initiative throughout the whole game. Milan took the lead in the first half when Pirlo's free-kick was deflected into the goal by Pipo Inzaghi. The second half was a little boring to watch as Milan was controlling the middle of the field. In the 82nd minute Inzaghi made it 2:0. Liverpool responded with one goal in the 87th minute when Dirk Kuyt beat Dida with a beautiful header. But, it was a little too late and Milan got their revenge from the 2005 Champions league final. I must say that I was a little disappointed in both sides as neither Milan, nor Liverpool came out ready to play for the fans. Maybe all the players got drunk the night before the match (haha). Congratulations to A.C. Milan but hopefully we watch a more attractive final next year.

Nikola Zigic, Who Do You Think You Are?
Nikola Zigic, 202 centimeters tall Racing Santander striker has become very famous in Spain and especially in Santander. Zigic stated that he cannot walk the street or go anywhere with out being asked for an autograph which is an awesome accomplishment. However, Zigic stated another thing which disturbed me. He said that he is not ready for Barcelona or Real Madrid but he also wouldn't want to end up in Fenerbahce like "Kezman". I think that he has no right to say such a thing because Mateja Kezman AKA The Batman had scored more than 100 goals in 3 seasons while playing for PSV. Besides they were national team mates and played well alongside one another. I think that Zigic is becoming another conceited professional athlete who does not possess 1 gram of character.

Ivica Kralj In LA Galaxy?
Many rumours are flowing around that the former Yugoslavian goalkeeper Ivica Kralj could resume his career in USA. LA Galaxy have announced that they are very interested in obtaining Kralj's services. Ivica Kralj stated, "I would have no problems playing on a team with a great player like David Beckham." Ivica Kralj vas capped more than 50 times for the Yugoslavian national team and is currently playing for Partizan Belgrade. After Sasa Curcic, Ivica Kralj would only be the second Yugoslavian (Serbian) player in the MLS (Excluding Preki). It's an interesting fact that Curcic is an ex- Partizan Belgrade player as well.

Real Madrid On FIre!
Real Madrid have been on fire lately. Even though Capello had announced that he will be changing clubs over the summer his club, Real Madrid is currently on top of Spanish Primera Division. Real Madrid completed a comeback against Espanyol this weekend from 1:3 to 4:3. Maybe Real Madrid have rediscovered their magic as they are currently showing nothing but power. Barcelona on the other hand had a chance to stay on top of Primera but they only managed to draw against Real Betis 1:1. Real and Barca are currently level on points but Real has an advantage due to better mutual results against Barcelona. There are only 4 more games left in the season and Real and Barcelona only having left one trophy to win better stay in top form or Sevilla could sneak in and conquer Spain.

Zigic in Tottenham???
Racing Santander have lowered Zigic's price to a realistic 10 million Euros as opposed to 25 million. As things stand now, the most serious potential buyer is Tottenham from London. Juventus is still in the game and Manchester City are very much interested in the Serbian striker. Zigic currently has scored 9 goals and assisted to 10 goals this season for Racing Santander.

Getafe Shocks Barcelona:
After having lost 5:2 in the first leg of Copa Del Rey Semi-Final, Getafe came back in the second leg to beat Barcelona 4:0. Getafe played an excellent game and showed a lot of team spirit on the field today, while Barcelona played with a lot of confusion in the defense and lack of hunger to win. On paper, Getafe had achieved a sensation but on the field Getafe made Barca look like they are a second division team. Getafe will meet with Sevilla in the final who beat Deportivo La Coruna 5:0 on aggregate.

LIverpool and A.C. Milan will play in the Champions League Final.
After both Liverpool and Milan lost first leg matches to Chelsea and Manchester Unitet both have risen to the occasion at their home stadiums and claimed the Champions League Final spots. Liverpool beat Chelsea on penalties 4:1 and Milan beat Man U 3:0 at home which made the final aggregate score 5:3 for Milan. The final shall be an interesting match as it's a rematch from the 2005 Champions League final where Liverpool climbed back from 3:0 to 3:3 and eventually won on penalties. A little less that 2 weeks remain till the greatest Club final in the world which will take place in Athens, Greece.

Bojan Krkic Scores First Goal For Barcelona!
Bojan Krkic, who's father is Serbian and mother Spanish, and who is also the most talented young European soccer player scored on his debut for Barcelona 'A' side against Egyptian Al Ahliya this week. Bojan Krkic has been in the headlines for some time now and had walked the walk. Krkic, who is 16, will probably be loaned out next season if he does not get enough playing time. Ajax is the most serious contender so far.

Chelsea vs Liverpool 1:0
Chelsea drew first blood as they beat Liverpool 1:0 today at Stamford Bridge. Joe Cole was the goal scorer in the 29th minute. Chelsea had dominated the whole match and they deserve the win. Chelsea's couch Mourinho stated that Chelsea will be playing the same game in Liverpool in leg 2. As things stand now Chelsea and Manchester United are headed in the final, but there is always a surprise. Lets wait and see what upcoming legs of Champions League semi-final bring us.

Chelsea vs Liverpool Preview:
Tomorrow, another 2 great teams will face each other in a Champions League semi-final first leg, Chelsea and Liverpool. Chelsea had turned on the style recently who are currently 2nd in the English Premiership only 3 points behind the leaders Manchester United. Even though Chelsea was faced with a great number of injuries this season they have overcome this downfall and are in the Champions League semi-final. Liverpool had been on and off recently but still hold the respectable 3rd position 4 points in front of 4th placed Arsenal. Chelsea's star striker Schevchenko is playing top class football at the moment and with Premiership leading goal scorer Didier Drogba they can mean a lot of danger for any defense. However, Liverpool had their stars as well. Steven Gerrard, as always is the midfield "general" and Peter Crouch who is 6'7 can harm any defense as well. Chelsea got eliminated by Liverpool 2 years ago who eventually went on to beat Milan in the final. Lets wait and see if we will see Deja Vu or Vice Versa. One thing is for certain, both teams will leave their hearts on the field tomorrow and only the luckier side will prevail, if any.

Manchester United vs A.C. Milan 3:2 [Champions League]
Excellent game today at Old Trafford. Manchester United took an early lead with Dida's own goal even though the goal might be given to Cristiano Ronaldo. Milan then took a lead with Kaka's goals in 22nd and 37th minute. But, Wayne Rooney was a bit too much for A.C Milan's defense as he scored in 59th and broke Milan's heart in the 90th minute with a wonderful goal. A.C. Milan still have a respectable score and can hope to clinch the final in the second leg. 1:0 Milan win in the second leg would take A.C. Milan in the Champions League final.

LAV KUP: Red Star-Partizan 1:0
Once again this season, Red Star Belgrade defeated their arch rivals Partizan Belgrade on Marakana Stadium in the Serbian Cup. Red Star needed only 15 minutes to score a goal when Miljas scored a very beautiful goal from 25 meters. In the 24th minute Nemanja Rnic received a red card after elbowing Red Star's Trajkovic. The whole second half, despite being one man down belonged to Partizan but they couldn't find the back of the net. Red Star Belgrade will face Vojvodina in the final who defeated Banat 1:0.

Lazovic Continues To Punish Goalkeepers:
In todays match Vitesse Arnhem vs Sparta Rotterdam Danko Lazovic scored two goals. Vitesse won 3:0. Vitesse had the early lead when Danko Lazovic scored a beautiful goal in the 3rd minute. Verhaegh made it 2:0 in the 20th minute and Lazovic did the "Finish Him Fatality" in the 83rd minute with another great goal. Danko Lazovic deserves to play for a much better team as he had shown his qualities once again.

A.C. Milan vs Bayern Munich - PSV vs Liverpool
Two Champions League matches take place today. A.C. Milan takes on Bayern Munich in sold out San Siro and PSV takes on Liverpool in sold out Phillips Stadium. A.C. Milan must make it up to their fans for the draw against Roma this weekend. Ronaldo is unlikely to start up front as Gilardino playing on top and Seedorf and Kaka playing behind him seems to be the winning combination. Bayern Munich will play with their strongest team including Roy Makaay and Lukas Podolski playing on top. PSV will play with their most experienced squad as Cocu will lead the midfield and Liverpool will play with their fastest team as Dirk Kuyt and Craig Bellamy will be playing on top. Both quarterfinal first legs today should be a joy to watch as now only the elite teams are left in the Champions League.

Serbia Can Play Without Zigic, But Not Without Me!
After Nikola Zigic received a 3 match ban the pressure started building up on Javier Clemente to call upon Mateja Kezman for the matches against Finland and Belgium. Kezman acted shamefully in the last World Cup in Germany when he received a red card against then Serbia&Montenegro VS Argentina where the Argentines won 6:0. After that game Kezman did not get a call to play for Serbia.
Kezman stated, " I got accused of something that I did and something that I didn't do. I am only 27 years old and I still have much to contribute for the Serbian national team. Zigic is an excellent player but we can and must play without him against Finland and Portugal. My status had not changed, as I still wish to play for Serbia with all my heart" One thing is certain, Javier Clemente will either have to call Mateja Kezman or go with the inexperienced Milan Jovanovic for the games against Finland and Belgium.
Check Out The Clip With Kezman's Skills:
